Chocolate Hills Adventure Park (CHAP)
'Twas a lazy Sunday morning.. We've decided to wake up late. Enjoying the comfort our beds. To soothe our tired muscles from yesterday's island hopping activity. I turned to my side and noticed my daughters comfortably snugged in (and my hubby snoring). All at once, I thought.. a mother's got to do her job. I managed to stretch, pulled myself up and went downstairs. Mama Angga is already awake. As always. Then I remembered, its Mother's Day today. We greeted each other. She head on the kitchen to continue cooking. I texted my mother in Calape and greeted her too. Then, decided to wash our wet suits and rashguards.
After our late breakfast, we delight ourselves in the living room to examine the photos we got yesterday. We got a lot of nice pictures and laughed at some too. I remembered my sister complaining about her very short underwater video. Like 1 second short. :) Its not everyday we converse and dine together (because we live in Cebu). She then suggested, "Laag na sad ta ron!" (Let's go somewhere today!) She already mentioned she wanted to go to Carmen, to try the new attractions at CHAP. We agreed of course. We all love to travel and have fun.
From Tagbilaran, we traveled almost an hour to Catigbian . Stopped at Riza's house at had lunch. We also visited their newly born cute baby Yzab. After that, its another more than an hour ride to Carmen via Hanopol Road . We arrived at roughly 3PM.
What was before a gloomy cloudy sky, now a hot clear day. We quickly rub ourselves with sunblock lotion and got out of the car.
Going inside, you'll notice the tall tress and the birds chirping. They'll even answer you back when you whistle.
A small bridge going to their main building. You can feed the fishes here in the pond for only 50 pesos.
There are lots of attractions and packages to choose from. Some of these are: the snake ladder, monkey swing, gymnaskids, butterfly garden, camping, choco zob ball, mini zipline and the most famous bike zip called "the rush". We chose the package called the Pentagon (tree top rope challenges with bike zip) worth 750 pesos. And Gymnaskids (300) for the little ones.
The CHAP personnel directed us to go the briefing and harness area. They've constructed wooden pavement and stairs for easy access because its a little steep.
Passed through their Cold and Souvenir Corner. My sister bought some bottled water. Pretty sure we're gonna need them later.
We listened to their briefing and other safety precautions, signed waivers and deposit our bags and cellphones in the locker.
Everyone has to pass here, the hanging bridge. My younger daughter started fearing and complaining so she has to be carried for us to get through. The bridge was about 50 feet long. It sways and swings a little with every step. Adrenaline starts kicking in.
Then to the hanging ladder. Took me 10 minutes to get through this, was all sweat since I was a little scared and still having this muscle pain. I think the ladder was too wide apart for my short legs. Lol..
This one was easier and shorter. Or maybe I was just getting the hang of it. :)
This is the tarzan swing, the highlight of this rope challenge. You will jump (more like, you will be dropped) in this 20-foot tree. I thought of turning back but the personnel said there's no backing down. As he was strapping things in my harness, my knees started to shake and my heart's pumping rapidly. He said I should just step in the red line at the edge of the board and shout before I jump. But I wouldn't shout, I just kept saying, "wait" because I was so scared. I've never been this gutsy in my entire life. I heard a countdown.."3..2..1..Shout!" All of a sudden the ledge bent and I was falling and screaming at the same time. It was like 4 seconds of exhilarating free fall. My family cheered as I reached the ground. That was fun!
Next, its the kids turn to have fun.
Not much sweat for them though, but they liked it still.
The last was to bike zip. But you have to climb your way up.
Took us hundreds of steps to reach the top of the hill.
My brother and sister went first. No cellphone or camera is allowed up there except those that can be attached in your helmet. They have their own photographer though. You can claim your printed photos in their booth for 100 pesos each if you want.
The towers are situated on two adjacent hills, 275 meters apart and 150 meters high. So you have to pedal yourself 550 meters (two-way) long. The bike is attached on a metal cable overhead so you don't have to balance, just pedal.
As I climbed, excitement and dread set in. I'm not exactly an adrenaline junkie type so I thought this is a big leap for me. My brother told me its helps if you pedal faster. Keeping that in mind, I managed to sit on the bike, told myself.. just relax and enjoy the view. I heard a countdown and a little push and I found myself pedaling in the air. Woohh! It's feels so eerie when you're high up, yet so amazing. The view is spectacular and the fresh mountain air is calming to my raising heartbeat. The zipline swings a little especially when your in the middle. I tried to take quick glances below every once in a while. Its so green and the trees looked like grasses. I pedaled faster and before i knew it, I've reached the end. Yes! My legs are killing me so I asked the personnel if I can take a little rest. But he refused. Ignoring the pain, I bike zipped again. This time a little slower and more relaxed, appreciating the scenery.
Some more photos before we left.
Enjoy friends and family bonding at a whole new level here in Chocolate Hills Adventure Park. Test your skills in their rope challenges and zip lines. They've also just opened a new attraction called "The Wave Runner" wherein you balanced yourself on a surf board and zipline to the other hill.
